Ten years has been gone by since the launch of brand Ubuntu. Ubuntu 14.10 is the 21st major release and this latest launch codenamed "Utopic Unicorn" could also be the most low-key release to date. But that's a whole different discussion. We will be reviewing Ubuntu 14.10 in detail soon. Here we'll see what all can be done to improve stock Ubuntu 14.10. 20 things to do after installing Ubuntu 14.10/Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

20 Things todo After Installing Ubuntu 14.10
Intel Linux Graphics Installer for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Although Intel graphics have always been the least troublesome for Linux users, things are a lot better now when it comes to the driver support for high-end graphics cards from Nvidia and others. But Intel's native graphics installer for Linux is truly one of a kind.

We have covered Linux Remote Control before which is a simple web based application for Android (and other devices that has support for HTML 5). It lets you "remote-control" Ubuntu abd other Linux based distros from your Android phone with ease. LRC for Android can now be installed from Firefox marketplace making the whole process so much smoother.
The latest Ubuntu LTS is here with a lot of minor as well as major changes. When it comes to Ubuntu and most other common Linux flavours, upgrading an entire OS is as easy as upgrading an application. All it takes is a whole lot of extra bandwidth for additional packages needed for the upgrade. And when it comes to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS which was released almost two years ago, you can directly upgrade to the latest LTS, Ubuntu 14.04 ie, skipping all the non-LTS releases in between with no real issues. Here's how its done.

Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr" has just been released. This is the second Ubuntu LTS release which will be based on Unity desktop. I have been using it for more than a month now and my experience with the new Ubuntu 14.04 has been exceptionally good so far. And unlike previous LTS releases, there are a truck load of major as well as minor changes. Meet the 15 new Ubuntu 14.04 features and changes that will help you make the final switch.

Locally Integrated Menus were a hugely anticipated feature since the introduction of universal menu in earlier Unity. 'Click to Minimize' is a similar functionality asked by many in the community. Well, it has been delivered. The latest iteration of Compiz Config Settings Manager (CCSM) has the Click to Minimize feature in the Launcher settings as an experimental functionality. And it will probably make it as a default Unity Launcher behaviour prior to the release of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS codenamed "Trusty Tahr".

More fun stuff added to Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr". This time, the lockscreen received a much needed update. To me, the most important aspect about this change is the fact that, lockscreen actually got faster and better-looking at the same time. On the other hand, Ubuntu's new borderless theme for window decorators looks absolutely gorgeous!

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is marching ahead and will be released as previously planned, on April 17, 2014. Many new features has been added including the much-loved Locally Integrated Menus (LIMs). Community contributed wallpapers was the next in line. From a large cache of about 405 submissions, 11 carefully sorted wallpapers has made it to the final list.

The google-translate-cli is a very simple 100-line AWK program that lets you use Google Translate without a web browser, and right from your Terminal. And it is as simple as it sounds. All you need is the GNU implementation of AWK programming language called Gawk and Git. Here's how you setup Google Translate for your Terminal in Ubuntu.

Time to say good-bye to global menus already? Seems like it. Canonical is planning to ditch its controversial and much talked about global menus for the more conventional Local menus setup, starting with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr". This is a huge departure, considering the fact that global menus were introduced just about two years ago.

I don't know about you, but I'm a big HUD fan. And I swear by my keyboard. If you're like me, here's a development you would not want to miss. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will debut keyboard filtering for Unity spread feature, which is pretty great news for keyboard junkies like me.
