Shutter - Fully Loaded Screenshot App For Linux

Shutter is a fully loaded open source screenshot app for Linux. It is fairly easy to use and especially useful for bloggers. Using shutter, you can take a screenshot of a specific area, window, your whole screen, or even of a website – apply different effects to it, draw on it to highlight points, and then upload to an image hosting site, all within one window.

How to Install Shutter Screenshot App in Ubuntu via PPA?
  • Following instructions are for installing the stable version of Shutter in Ubuntu. 
For Ubuntu Natty, Maverick, Lucid
  • Ubuntu Natty 11.04, Maverick 10.10 and Lucid 10.04 users, following the steps.
  • Open Terminal(Applications - Accessories - Terminal) and copy-paste the following command.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shutter/ppa
  • Now update repositories and install shutter using the following commands.
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install shutter
  • Done.
For Ubuntu Jaunty, Intrepid and Hardy
  • Again open Terminal and copy-paste the following commands one by one. Remember to change the YOUR_UBUNTU_VERSION part in the first command with Jaunty, Intrepid or Hardy(depending on the version of Ubuntu you use).
sudo bash -c "echo 'deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/shutter/ppa/ubuntu YOUR_UBUNTU_VERSION main ' >> /etc/apt/sources.list"
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 009ED615
  • Now update repositories and install shutter using the following commands.
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install shutter
  • Done.
