India's $35 Tablet 'Aakash' Launched, Runs Android 2.2

India's much talked about US$35 tablet running Android 2.2 Froyo is finally launched. World’s cheapest tablet will be called 'Aakash' and it's exact price is Rs.2,276. At current rates, final cost will be around US$50, which still makes it the world's cheapest tablet. Aakash Android Tablet - World's Cheapest Tablet is Finally Launched
World’s cheapest tablet PC 'Aakash'(means "sky" in Hindi) is finally launched. It will be given to students after subsidising the price by up to 50 per cent, India's Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal said while unveiling the device in New Delhi.

Specifications:
  • Conexant's 366 Mhz Processor with Graphics accelerator and HD Video processor.
  • 256MB RAM, 2GB internal storage, up to 32GB external storage supported.
  • 7" display with 800x480 pixel resolution, resistive touchscreen.
  • 2 Standard USB ports.
  • WiFi, 3G, GPRS connectivity supported. 
  • Runs on Android 2.2 Froyo operating system.
Currently, 100,000 of these devices will be distributed among students all over the country so that they can be extensively tested in various climatic and usage conditions.
