If you think Linux desktops are ugly, think again. Here is an awesome collection of 15 jaw dropping Linux desktop customizations made by users. I wouldn't mind calling them works of art instead of just customizations. They are that good. A good number of them include clever conky modifications. Be it desktop clients like Gwibber or web based plugins like Chromed Bird, there is no dearth for good twitter clients in Ubuntu. Pino is Twitter and Identi.ca client for Linux desktop you might want to give a try at. It has an even simpler interface when compared to gwibber and looks promising overall.

This is a small yet so useful hack. By displaying the size of files underneath the files itself, you are immediately aware of the files which occupy a lot of space and those which are not. This is especially useful if you are using a paltry 80 GB hard drive laptop like me ;-). Look at the screenshot below and you understand what I mean.

Amarok was my favorite among Linux media players, until Amarok 2.0 series started coming in. I totally understand that Amarok 2.0 series is a complete rewrite and I really appreciate the effort they have put on upgrading Amarok. But the bottom line is, Amarok 2.0 series is not yet there. And so I settled down with Songbird and I loved it. But had to remove Songbird for reasons you must have already been all too familiar with.
